Bible A very important piece ofJohn Greenleaf Whittier [1807 1892] was one of the earliest and most energetic of the Abolitionists. His poems were published by William Lloyd Garrison and became the lyric and song of many of the anti slavery movements. Often described as one of the Fireside Poets, the term is too soft. He was thorny and salty . . . a John the Baptist of a man. I cannot recommend reading him highly enough. He's a staple around our place. The Poetical Works of John
