These carpets were produced in the area around the Iranian city of Arak, which has a history of rug weaving dating back to the mid 17th Century. Sultanabad mahals, also called Ziegler mahals, were named after a Manchester based British firm which supervised the production of high quality exports to the west, beginning in 1883. Like most
