1861 CIVIL WAR LETTER. I'm in this War only to Save the Jackass Necks in Washington! Baptist Half of one sheet ofA really wonderful piece of early Civil War ephemera on wonderfully quirky soldier stationary. Largely chatty, if pessimistic material. But the last line is the keeper, "This war is nothing but a humbug. I thought that I went to war to save the country, but [now] I believe that I went to war to save some of the jackass necks which are at Washington." Addressed from Camp Griffin in Virginia, December 29th, 1861, the author was Abraham N. Wolf, Jr.
